Sgt. Wolford

Too bad Al-

I was really hoping to hear something about Dennis. I mean just connecting with him would have been great. Anyway lately we’ve been getting a lot of good news as far as finding the guys, but then we here about Sully and now Sgt Wolford. And at such an early age.

So we get a little bad in-between some good news. Hmm? Just another reason to come to a reunion and talk to some people as we might not get the chance to do it again.

Eric “Smitty” Smith

…But I especially remember Smitty’s bravery under terrible artillery fire in the DMZ in October 1968, when he volunteered to lead the medevac effort for our wounded and dead. Under intense fire and at great personal risk, he got the job done. He was recommended for (and earned) a Bronze Star, and was eventually awarded a Navy Commendation Medal for his efforts….

Reunion Update

Guys, if the reunion is half as good as the phone calls I’ve had with platoon members recently, it will be pretty great.

Reunion Hotel

I hope you show at the TEXAS Reunion as I want to talk to you about your photos, my photos, Billy V’s photos Coops photos and Pedro’s photos and any of the other 81s guys who had access to a camera back in the day. Whether it was at Khe Sanh or when we went on the BLT. (Serious. I have been trying to sort them out for ten years but I need some help)

Jeez Smitty, I have been promising to find those photos for a long time, haven’t I? Guess I better get on it.

I’m out of town ’til next week, but will get it done when I get back.

Reunion Update

I had a great conversation with Larry Ballard earlier this week. He had sent me a DVD that includes TV interviews with him on his reflections of Vietnam and the re-interment of 2/26 chaplain’s assistant Alexander Chin, who was killed with Father Brett at Khe Sanh. Larry contacted the Chin family in the late 90s and arranged to have the reburial ceremony at Arlington.

This is great news and I had better get off my ass and start sending some  emails

I think I have photos of all the guys you just mentioned and maybe even a photo of Maynard Sinclair.

Reunion

Eloy, need to know exact dates, name of hotel for reservation, and destination airport. I’ll be flying from Orlando. Also, are you guys taking your respectives wifes? I’m trying my best with the search.

Rod, Pedro and all-

I’m glad Pedro’s coming. This will be a good reunion. Maybe we can even convince Billy V  to steer his hog southwest…

I wouldn’t dare leave my wife Mary Jean at home — she’s heard too much about you guys to miss the chance to meet you in person.

Radiomen always have a channel

Funny thing. No idea who started it, but I suppose the radiomen from previous battles or occupations had found the secret channel before us guys. Hmm? Maybe I am exaggerating here but so what?

Bill

Just like the Khe Sanh Vets Bull Jive Net that we had going at Khe Sanh in the early days of the Siege. Sure. We talked to each all the time but we hardly ever seen anybody. Hmm? Well that is the way I saw it. For example I knew you from Phu Bai but it was only for a few days and then I never heard from you again for a couple of months.  But then we got sent to Khe Sanh we somehow ”hooked up”  to the Khe Sanh Bullshit Net. We actually found “Freddy Johnson”

I talked to Frederick R. Johnson earlier today. He remembers Lt. Green and Ventura. He gave me the name of another platoon member by the name of GordonT. Brown. I found Frederick’s and Gordon’s name and addresss, ph. # and email address in the 2008 Khe Sanh Veterans Directory. I also found Gordon listed. And, believe it or not, I found Ken Fisak name on the internet. Fire mission not quite comepleted but we’re getting there.

Al (And 81s Gang)

I cant  believe we actually found “Freddy Johnson”  Ha! Plus hooking up with Gordon Brown is also good news as I had been in touch with him a few years ago (About nine) but then I lost touch with him. Still he set me up with some good flicks and he also said that he had been to a reunion.

Anyway I was so happy to hear about Freddy Johnson that I just got off the phone with his granddaughter who is only 16 but then it was only 11 PM out there in Wichita Kansas.

In any event,   I told the grandchild of 16 years, that I (Maverick the TONK Player from 81s ) would be calling again in the morning. Just to say hello to my old nemesis.

Dang Guys. This is great news and especially if we could get some of these guys to come to the reunion.  Hmm? Now what ever happened to that Corporal Arms from North Carolina? As I recall he was another Whiskey Wheels and at one time he was my Squad leader.
