Al

This is great news and I had better get off my ass and start sending some  emails

I think I have photos of all the guys you just mentioned and maybe even a photo of Maynard Sinclair.

Subject: Reunion update

Guys-

I had a great conversation with Larry Ballard earlier this week. He had sent me a DVD that includes TV interviews with him on his reflections of Vietnam and the re-interment of 2/26 chaplain’s assistant Alexander Chin, who was killed with Father Brett at Khe Sanh. Larry contacted the Chin family in the late 90s and arranged to have the reburial ceremony at Arlington.

Larry also sent me Terry Lee Poole’s phone number (770-748-2292). I left voicemail for Terry and will follow up with him until I connect. I’m sure Smitty and others will reach out to him as well.

Speaking of connecting, Maynard Sinclair would appreciate a phone call from Pedro and anyone else in the group. As mentioned recently, he is being treated for severe PTSD. His number is 910-347-9377.

My son, Bryan, is updating the web site (nomad81s.com) to show recent correspondence and reunion info. He’s also going to post Larry’s DVD on the site as streaming video. After mucho pressure from Smitty, I am scanning photos and will post them on the site.

For the reunion, I’ll be there by Thursday AM, maybe Wednesday PM, and stay through Sunday AM. My wife Mary Jean is coming with me. Rod knows of places in town we can all go for dinner and drinks and such when we’re not with the larger group.

I’m still Maggie’s drawers on finding my platoon members, but I haven’t given up. Coop, what’s that paid service you’re using to find David Armes? Rod, any luck with good e-mail addresses for Freddy Johnson, Gordon Brown and Ken Fisak? Bruce, same question re: Jim Borgh, Gary Hoopman and Charlie Kipp. Smitty, same question re: Bob Ridgway — I’m getting bounce-back’s from an address that used to work. Coop, same question re: Robert Hommer.

Anyone else re-connected with anyone we don’t know about? Anybody found Manny yet?

Linda Fabyunkey, are you still planning to attend the reunion? I have a couple of photos of Gunny Fab to be scanned.

Walt “Phil” Philbin, are you out there? After that great burst of LZ Margo memories, and after Smitty helped you celebrate retirement, the line from New Orleans has been very quiet.

Billy V, San Antonio’s not all that far from Sturgis, relatively speaking.

This is going to be a great reunion, guys. I’m really looking forward to seeing everybody.

Best and Semper Fi,

-Alan
